Brentford vs Aston Villa Preview and Team News

Brentford Team News

Brentford would’ve wished for a different start to the 2025-26 season, as they visited Nottingham Forest but looked outmatched in a disappointing 3-1 loss.

In what was Keith Andrews’ debut as their manager, the Bees showed serious defensive problems and an apparent lack of ideas in the final third. That’s a brutal combination for any team, let alone one adapting to a new coach

The London side fought hard in their defeat to Forest, but it’s clear they need to make quite a few adjustments to turn things around quickly. Brentford also must resolve some transfer-related issues to finalize the squad.

The future of Yoane Wissa, who scored 19 goals in 2024-25, remains uncertain, and the longer this situation drags on, the worse it will be for the club.

The Bees should receive some good news regarding the availability of some players, though. Mikkel Damsgaard missed the opener due to personal reasons, but should be in the XI this time around. Vitaly Janelt and Gustavo Nunes, two players who should contend for minutes, are out, as is Wissa. With that in mind, the potential return of Damsgaard might be Brentford’s lone change compared to the opener.

Brentford predicted lineup vs Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, van den Berg, Henry; Jensen, Yarmolyuk; Carvalho, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago.

Aston Villa Team News

Aston Villa couldn’t open the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a win at Villa Park and had to settle for a scoreless draw against Newcastle United. However, most fans should be happy with that outcome given how the match unfolded. The second-half red card to Ezri Konsa changed the flow of the game, and Newcastle could’ve easily won it based on the numbers (xG: 0.20 to 1.44).

The Midlands club will get a huge boost between the posts since star goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez is back in the mix following his suspension. His return should significantly bolster the team’s defensive quality, as the Argentina international is widely considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Even so, Villa’s defensive depth remains a concern.

Konsa, one of the squad’s best defenders and a former Brentford player, is suspended due to the red card picked up against Newcastle. To make matters more complicated, Andrés García is questionable. The return of Martínez and Konsa’s replacement are the lone changes Villa should have for this contest compared to the season opener.

Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Brentford (4-2-3-1): Martínez; Cash, Mings, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Onana; McGinn, Tielemans, Rogers; Watkins.

Brentford vs Aston Villa Prediction, Odds

Brentford might have the edge of playing at home, but that’s about where their advantages end. The squad looked drastically outmatched in the season opener against Nottingham Forest, and that could very well be the case again when facing Aston Villa.

The Midlands club appear superior on both sides of the ball – even if that wasn’t reflected in their stalemate against Newcastle.

The absence of Wissa and the lack of cohesion might conspire against the hosts’ possibilities here. After all, Brentford went through many changes during the summer and didn’t show a lot of chemistry in their loss to Nottingham

Issues aside, the reality is that Aston Villa are the better team, both from an individual and a collective perspective. They’re also in dire need of a bounce-back performance following the timid draw against Newcastle, and this matchup against a lowly Brentford side might be their golden opportunity. The Villains will have to grind it out, but they should be able to get their first win of the season here.

Brentford vs Aston Villa Betting Tip

Despite the setback against Nottingham Forest, Brentford managed to find the back of the net once and had some threatening sequences in the final third.

The Bees should be able to score at least once in their first match of the season in front of their fans, but the same could be said about Aston Villa, which certainly can’t look as bad as they did in the campaign opener.

Thus, going for the over 2.5 total goals and seeing both teams score could be a strong play. The numbers certainly back that up, as five of their previous six head-to-head meetings (including friendlies) have ended with both sides on the scoresheet.

Furthermore, six of their last eight head-to-heads have featured three or more total goals. We expect that trend to continue here, especially since both clubs need the win.
