That dominance on both ends of the ice certainly bodes well ahead of this rivalry clash against the United States. Team USA weren’t nearly as good as Canada, though, and posted an underwhelming W4, L3 record that included one overtime win.

They edged Germany in the race for fourth place by just one point, but by all means, that’s a disappointing outcome for one of the most talented rosters in the tournament.

Canada should also hold a clear edge in the goaltending department. They’re expected to send Jet Greaves between the pipes, while the USA will likely counter with Devin Cooley, who allowed just one goal in the win over Austria on May 26 to clinch the quarterfinal berth.

Another option for the Americans would be Joseph Woll, but the expectation is that Cooley will get the nod.

The USA have several intriguing names and plenty of NHL talent, but this isn’t even remotely close to their best team. Canada aren’t sending their best squad either, but from a purely individual perspective, they are head and shoulders above the USA in terms of talent and cohesion. That advantage should show here, as the Canadians look well-positioned to avenge their loss in the Winter Olympics earlier this year.

If the Canucks are going to eliminate Team USA, then Macklin Celebrini will need to be at his best. The star centre, who posted 116 points in the 2025-26 regular season with the San Jose Sharks, has been one of Canada’s most consistent performers so far.

He has racked up a team-high 11 points in the tournament with five goals and six assists, tied for second among all skaters in points, with Switzerland’s Sven Andrighetto leading the way.

Look for Celebrini, who has recorded at least two points in five of his last six appearances, to step up and deliver a dominant performance in a game where his side will need him at his best.

If the Canucks continue to dominate offensively the way they’ve all tournament long, players like Sidney Crosby and John Tavares should play key roles once again. Even though Celebrini has been the Canadians’ best player by a wide margin, he can’t do everything on his own, especially against NHL-calibre talent. That’s where the experience of Crosby and Tavares should come in handy.

Crosby has been one of the best playmakers in the competition and has racked up nine assists so far, co-leading the tournament alongside Andrighetto. He’s yet to score, but he won’t need to do so as long as he keeps feeding his teammates.

As for Tavares, he is tied for fourth among Canadian players with three goals, but his experience should prove decisive here. He has been on a roll and seems to be heating up, having scored in his last two appearances.
