EuroBasket Group Favourites: the Fan’s Choice

-A A +A

Reading time: 3 mins

Every basketball fan wants their national team to win the championship, but since the EuroBasket has a group stage, you can have more than one natural favourite. At this point, there are three more teams to support, and here at TonyBet we looked at what our players are thinking about this year’s leaders. The numbers don‘t lie – here are the fan predictions for the group stage of the 2015 tournament:

Group A Winner: France

With 7 NBA stars, it‘s hardly an outrageous guess to predict even a gold medal for this team, so the group win seems only natural. France is this year‘s defending champion, and when a roster boasts players like Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, Evan Fournier, Nicolas Batum and Rudy Gobert, you can be sure the only thing on this team‘s mind is triumph.

Group B Winner: Spain

Spain is still one of the favourites in the eyes of many basketball experts, however, they will have to brave the EuroBasket without Juan Carlos Navarro, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Jose Manuel Calderon and Ricky Rubio. The TonyBet players have their faith in this team anyhow and they predict Spain‘s win in the group stage.

Group C Winner: Croatia/Greece

While in the other groups our players agree rather unanimously on the leaders, hard battles are expected in group C, as both Croatia and Greece are being bet on to win. The Croats are led by the impressive Bojan Bogdanovic of NBA’s Brooklyn Nets whilst Greece‘s star is Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. The clash of the two should definitely provide an interesting match.

Group D Winner: Lithuania

Last championship resulted in a silver medal for the Lithuanian national team. This year, they are facing some difficulties with a few key players missing out not to mention their last game against Croatia – not exactly hope-inspiring. However, in their group NBA‘s Jonas Valančiūnas and shooter Artūras Milaknis should do the trick and at this point, Lithuania can most definitely triumph.

No Glory for Slovenia

There is always that one team no one can quite see winning and this year‘s favourite in this unfortunate sense is Slovenia. People are actively betting on them not being the best in group C – the amount has surpassed the bets made on the victories of few of the others!

It is certainly a bit early to predict the sure-fire champions of the EuroBasket, however, in the group stage it‘s a fair game already. There is still plenty of time to bet on your favourites: France, for example, has the odds of 3/25 to win its group, whilst the Netherlands’ chances are at 199/1.  The matches start on September 5th, and the championship will conclude on the 20th of the same month.
