Tennis fans have already been treated to a summer spree of elite-level action on the court, though the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year – the U.S. Open – is just around the corner. Follow along with Tonybet and keep up to date with the stateside competition. It should make for another enthralling watch.

Starting on August 26th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, the U.S Open is in its 144th iteration and at this year’s two-week tournament, the biggest names in tennis will be competing for $75m in prize money after the pool was bumped up 15% from 2023.

While fans can expect to see most of the game’s superstars in action in flushing meadows, they will be denied the chance to see the top wheelchair players in NYC. For the fourth time since 2008, the U.S Open clashes with the Paralympics and big-hitters like Alfie Hewitt, Tokito Oda, Martin De La Puente, Diede de Groot and Yui Kamiji will be in Paris.

To whet your appetite for the U.S. Open, we’ve done some early analysis on how the tournament might develop.

Men’s Singles

Favourites

Carlos Alcaraz, who is the outright market favourite with Tonybet at a price of 2.35, will head to New York to grab the men’s singles title with big expectations having clinched the French Open and Wimbledon titles earlier this year.

The Spanish phenom edged out Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon and there is every chance the pair could cross paths for their 10th career meeting in the Big Apple.

Current form favours Alcaraz, however, it’s worth noting that defending U.S Open champion Djokovic (2.88) won both of his previous two encounters with his new nemesis on hardcourt and that could give the Serbian the edge on the solid surfaces in the states.

22-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner, who is the current number one ahead of both Djokovic and Alcaraz in the rankings, also represents an interesting prospect at 3.22 with Tonybet.

Sinner has a 94% win rate on hardcourt surfaces this year and though he was eliminated in the fourth round of last year’s U.S Open, he beat Djokovic on his way to winning the 2024 Australian Open in January.

Women’s Singles

Favourites

2022 U.S. open winner Iga Swiatek enjoys top billing in the outright markets on Tonybet (3.99) for the women’s singles title in Flushing Meadows, though her record so far this year calls for caution.

The Polish star was beaten in the Third Round of the Australian Open this year on hardcourt and the 23-year-old was ousted from the same round in similarly disappointing style at Wimbledon. Her confidence was also knocked by a surprise loss in the semi-finals of the Olympics, so the smart money looks elsewhere for the U.S. Open.

Aryna Sabalenka missed Wimbledon with a shoulder injury, but she was a beaten finalist at the U.S Open in 2023 and she wields enough power to be a major player on the surface in New York again this year. She represents a more attractive option on Tonybet at 4.02.

Spare a thought for defending champion and current world number two Coco Gauff at a meatier price of 8.27. The 20-year-old is a home-court hero in New York and she should have massive backing from the crowd again as she bids to successfully defend her crown.

Men’s Doubles

Favourites

The official list of pairings entering the Men’s Doubles category at the 2024 U.S. Open won’t be published until August 22nd. However, we should expect three-time defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury to return to Flushing Meadows in search of a fourth triumph on the spin.

Ram (USA) and Salisbury (GBR) made history when they completed a hattrick of Men’s Doubles titles last year, coming from behind to beat Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden in the final (2–6, 6–3, 6–4).

Bopanna and Ebden rebounded to win on the hardcourts of the Australian Open however and were beaten semi-finalists in the French Open in June, and on that kind of form, they should have decent credentials again in New York.

Number one seeds last year, Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski, fell massively short of expectations when they were eliminated in the Third Round, and a considerable improvement will be the target in 2024.

Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have been knocking on the door this year and were beaten finalists in both the Australian and French Open. They are likely to be a popular choice in the Men’s Doubles stakes on Tonybet when the markets populate.

Women’s Doubles

Favourites

The Canadian and Australian double act of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe were seeded 16th before upsetting the rankers to win the Women’s Double even at the U.S. Open last year. That formidable pair also made the semi-finals of the French Open and were beaten by Wimbledon finalists this summer, so they could be worth shortlisting again in New York in 2024.

Hsieh Su-wei and China Wang Xinyu made a push for the semi-finals at the U.S. Open 12 months ago, though Su-wei swapped Xinyu for Belgian Elise Mertens at the Australian Open shortly after and working together, they secured silverware down under.

They’ve stuck with each other since and though they were on the wrong end of a second-round giant killing in France, they showed tournament-winning potential again with a semi-final appearance at Wimbledon.

Much of the attention will again be focussed on local starlets, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula however. Quarter-finalists at last year’s U.S Open, they were tipped for big things in Australia in January and were number one seeds before they withdrew. A run to the last eight at Wimbledon could provide a platform for something better on home turf.

Mixed Doubles

Favourites

Most observers expect Poland’s Jan Zieliński and Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei to set the standard at the U.S. Open in the Mixed Doubles Category after a productive 12 months for the pair.

Su-wei tried her hand with Marcelo Arevalo in last year’s tournament in New York, however, the competition’s third seeds flopped and exited at the second round. In Australia a few months later, Su-wei played in tandem with Jan Zielinski, and with their chemistry undeniable, they beat Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski in the final in Melbourne.

Following a semi-final appearance at the French Open, Su-wei and Zielinski delivered the goods again at Wimbledon to win their second Grand Slam of the year, and the duet should be in the frame to complete a hattrick in the USA.

The aforementioned Desirae Krawczyk (USA) and Neal Skupski (GBR) are also likely to have a say. Alongside reaching the final of the Australian Open, they were beaten finalists at the French Open and quarter-finalists at Wimbledon. They have been performing like they are on the cusp of something and that Krawczyk/Skupski combo should be worth a market check on Tonybet.

Matthew Ebden and Ellen Perez were seeded first for both the French Open (QF) and Wimbledon (R1), but they disappointed on each occasion, and their competitors in the U.S offer more palatable alternatives.
