People look forward to the announcement of the seedings for the men’s and women’s draws at Wimbledon because it helps to shape the draw. The top four seeds are kept apart in separate quarters of the Wimbledon draw, helping to set up those high-profile semi-final clashes.
Just because a player is riding high in the Wimbledon seedings, it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily a favourite to go on and win the tournament. While the two things sometimes correlate, a player’s seeding is based on their WTA or ATP ranking, which is formulated on a rolling basis and doesn’t always reflect current form.
The Wimbledon grass is a difficult surface for players to adjust to, and the grass swing of the season is short, so players don’t get much prep time on the surface ahead of the Grand Slam. Someone who has had a storming season on the hard or clay courts could suddenly see their game come undone at SW19, while some natural grass court players could gain an advantage.
It’s therefore important to keep an eye on odds and player form during the build-up to Wimbledon 2025. Keep reading this guide to the top seeds as we put the main contenders under the spotlight.

The top four men’s seeds
So, who are the biggest contenders heading into Wimbledon 2025? Let’s examine the top of the ATP rankings.
Jannik Sinner
Italy’s Jannik Sinner recently had his first taste of defeat in a Grand Slam final. There had been big question marks about his fitness levels and match sharpness at the French Open due to his three-month absence, but he shrugged it off to meet Carlos Alcaraz in the showcase match.
Sinner couldn’t quite get across the line after holding a two-set advantage, but he is still the world number one and will be seeking his maiden Wimbledon crown as 2.5 joint-favourite.
Sinner’s previous record at SW19 isn’t red hot, with his best performance being a semi-final finish in 2023. However, before 2024, he hadn’t won a Grand Slam title, and since the start of last year, he has won three of six.

Carlos Alcaraz
Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has won Wimbledon for the last two years and is the 2.5 joint Wimbledon tennis betting favourite. Alcaraz, who is teaming up with British hope Emma Raducanu in the mixed doubles, has cranked up his form since the start of the clay swing.
Fun fact: Each of the last six men’s Wimbledon titles has been won by either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz.
He appeared competitively on grass for the first time this season at Queen’s, where he won the title for the second time. It was further proof that the Spaniard is very much at home on the surface, arguably more so than on hard courts. Because of this, and his record at Wimbledon (winning two of the four editions he’s played in), he is the one to beat.
- Alcaraz’s best Wimbledon finish – winner 2023, 2024
Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev is one of the best players around yet to win a Grand Slam title. He fell to defeat in each of his three previous Grand Slam finals, including this year’s Australian Open. Zverev’s record at Wimbledon doesn’t inspire confidence, as it’s the only one of the four Grand Slams in which he has never made it past the fourth round, and he has long 21.0 outright odds to defy despite his ranking.
Zverev started the grass swing of the season on home turf in Germany, but couldn’t deliver the title. He has been to at least the quarter-finals in seven of the last nine Grand Slams he has played in, but the two occasions he didn’t were at Wimbledon.
- Zverev’s best Wimbledon finish – fourth round 2018, 2021, 2024
Jack Draper
Jack Draper is the big British hope at Wimbledon. His status on the ATP has been rapidly growing in the last two years, and the 23-year-old has made some significant breakthroughs since last summer, reaching the semi-final of the US Open and then claiming his first ATP 1000 title at Indian Wells this year.
Fun fact: Since 2003, there have been just five different players crowned Wimbledon champion (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz).
Draper also reached the ATP 1000 Madrid final, which he lost in a deciding set, and after a good week on the grass at Queen’s, big things will be expected of him at Wimbledon. The crowd will be behind him, and he is one of the top four seeds despite being a longer 9.0 quote.
- Draper’s best Wimbledon finish – second round 2024

Dark horses in the men’s Wimbledon draw
Will anyone from outside the top four be able to make a title run this year? Here are two of the best outside picks.
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic knows exactly what it takes to win the Wimbledon title, as he’s done it a cool seven times before. Even though he’s past his prime, he can’t be counted out of the running as he’s reached the Wimbledon final on each of his last six appearances and will be hungry to avoid a hattrick of runner-up spots at the Slam. He skipped the early grass-court swing of the season, which suggests that he is going to give it all in a big shot at winning that elusive eighth Wimbledon crown. He is priced fairly at 5.5 odds.
Taylor Fritz
America’s Taylor Fritz had his best year of tennis in 2024, reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon while finishing as runner-up in the US Open final. On the back of that strong year, 22.0 outsider Fritz is still riding high in the world rankings, and in two of the last three years, he has reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
His recent title success in Stuttgart on grass, beating Alexander Zverev in the final, will have done wonders for his confidence after a poor clay swing.
The women’s top four seeded players
The women’s draw at Wimbledon looks a lot more open than the men’s, and in each of the last seven editions, the title has gone to a first-time winner. Here are the main contenders.
Aryna Sabalenka
3.7 favourite Aryna Sabalenka will be smarting badly after losing both the Australian Open and French Open finals this year. However, she’s comfortably the top-ranked player in the world. She is hunting her maiden Wimbledon crown, and has made the semi-finals on her last two Wimbledon appearances.
Anything less than another slot in the final four for Sabalenka would be a surprise outcome, and she was in good form in Berlin as part of her warm-up on grass. Whether she can break through that semi-final barrier remains to be seen though, and her worst Grand Slam record comes from Wimbledon, where she has less than a 70% win rate in matches.
- Sabalenka’s best Wimbledon finish – semi-final 2021, 2023
Coco Gauff
Two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff will be riding a big wave of positivity going into Wimbledon, having recently claimed the French Open title for the first time. Gauff is ranked number two in the world and has added consistency to her obvious talent. She is at 7.0 to lift the title in Wimbledon betting.
Fun fact: Since 2009, Petra Kvitová and Serena Williams are the only two players to win the Wimbledon title on more than one occasion.
However, much like Sabalenka, Wimbledon has been a tough nut for the American, who is yet to go beyond the fourth round. Gauff’s poorest match win rate in Slams is at Wimbledon. She also lost her first competitive match on grass this season in Berlin.
- Gauff’s best Wimbledon finish – fourth round 2021, 2024
Jessica Pegula
American Jessica Pegula has rocketed up to third in the world rankings due to winning two titles this year. She won a hard court title in Austin, Texas, and then she won the Charleston Open on clay. She also finished as runner-up to Sabalenka in the WTA 1000 Miami final.
Pegula had a breakthrough year at Wimbledon in 2024, getting to the quarter-finals for the first time. Injury has kept her out a lot in the last couple of years, which leaves a few question marks over her. She’s a very long 34.0 quote despite her ranking.
- Pegula’s best Wimbledon finish – quarter-final 2023
Qinwen Zheng
Qinwen Zheng is pegged as a future Grand Slam champion. The 22-year-old has risen to the top five in the world this year, and she has already been showing plenty of threat in Grand Slams. Zheng broke onto the scene in 2023 when she reached the US Open quarter-finals.
She then defied the odds to reach the 2024 Australian Open final and made the quarters of this year’s French Open. 21.0 shot Zheng doesn’t have a great record at Wimbledon but is only making her fourth appearance in the draw this year.
- Zheng’s best Wimbledon finish – third round 2022
Women’s Wimbledon draw – dark horses
Below, we pinpoint a couple of dark horses who could make their presence felt at the Slam.
Iga Świątek
Former world number one Iga Świątek is down in the rankings after struggles with form this year. She wasn’t given much hope at this year’s French Open, but overcame some difficulties with form and confidence to reach the semi-finals. Świątek, who is 9.0 to win outright, has only reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals, but if she can find her form, she could cause problems.
Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina’s 6.0 quote shows that rankings don’t paint the entire picture, as she’s currently not a WTA top 10 player. However, she has a strong track record at Wimbledon, including claiming the 2022 title. Since then, she has backed it up with a quarter-final finish in 2023 and a semi-final place last year.
On grass she’s a threat, and her numbers at Wimbledon are far superior to those of any other Grand Slam. She had an early loss at Queen’s in the build-up, and very nearly defeated Sabalenka in the quarters of Berlin, but she’s a dangerous dark horse.
