Are you ready for the Women’s Rugby World Cup final? If you’ve been paying attention to the action so far, there have been some incredible shocks, upsets and historic moments that have had fans with their heads in their hands and cheering in disbelief. Who would have thought (even among fans of either side) that we’d be seeing Canada face off against England on Saturday 27th September?

Admittedly, both England and Canada were ranked numbers one and two, respectively, heading into the draw for the current Women’s Rugby World Cup. However, Canada have had nothing short of a meteoric rise to prominence in this tournament, having stunned everyone by knocking out seven-time (and outgoing) champions New Zealand.

But what will the final look like on the day, and what do our experts have to say about this forthcoming clash of titans? We will know for sure sometime after 4pm Irish time, in London’s Allianz Stadium.

Final overview

England’s place in the final was, for many experts, a foregone conclusion. England’s rugby women are world-class, and while the side haven’t won the tournament since 2014, they are ranked world’s number one for a reason.

That said, many eyes are squarely positioned on Canada as they head into Saturday’s matchup with one of the most exciting underdog stories we’ve seen in recent years. Canada knocked outgoing champions New Zealand out of the competition, cementing their players as among the best in their generation.

It’s worth noting that, as of the time of writing, only three countries have ever won the World Cup. These are the USA, winning in 1991; England, winning in 1994 and 2014; and New Zealand, winning in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2017 and 2021.

Ultimately, if Canada win the 2025 tournament, the side will become only the fourth team ever to raise the trophy. That said, some experts believe that the home advantage is on England’s side, with the final taking place in London.

Beyond this accolade, Canada’s women have only ever made it as far as fourth place in the competition up to now. Their performance in 2025 is, essentially, record-breaking – regardless of what happens next.

That’s not to put England’s women in the shade! They’ve finished as runners-up at least four times, and have never finished outside of the top three. This is going to be a nail-biting final that few are brave enough to predict – if you are, however, make a beeline for our betting pages.

Current odds analysis

Although Canada have a strong chance of causing an even bigger upset at the final, England remain Tonybet’s favourite to win the tournament. Odds are shorter than many people might expect for Canada to claim the spoils, but it certainly seems safer to choose England at this stage.

That said, of course, anything can happen, and everything can change. What some rugby fans might want to keep an eye out for are odds on certain players in the match, such as who might be the highest scorer.

On those grounds, it’s probably worth watching Julia Schell and Sophie de Goede for Canada, because the former has scored the most tries (six) on the team thus far, and the latter has scored the most points (58).

For England, you may want to watch out for Jess Breach when it comes to tries (six), and Zoe Harrison in terms of total points (34). Of course, it will always be a team effort on the day. However, if you feel that the final result seems too clear-cut, try (pun intended) a different market!

What’s really interesting about matching up these stats is that Canada are superior to England on highest scorer (De Goede vs. Harrison), and that their top try-takers both have six to their name in the tournament.

Regardless, all four players are likely to be the biggest names to watch in the final. That said, again, anything could happen – which is why some bettors will lean into live and in-play rugby odds on the day.

Key matchups

While it’s tempting to go all-in on Canada due to their trouncing of New Zealand, historically, England’s Red Roses absolutely have the upper hand. In previous meetings, England have beaten Canada many times, including their five most recent matches. In those matches, England have stretched ahead score-wise by 25-30 point leads.

Statistically, England are the safe bet going into the final. However, we have to look at how Canada triumphed over New Zealand to consider how the side might apply pressure to their fellow finalists. It has been noted, for example, that Canada exploited New Zealand’s attacking game, choosing to move the ball wide and take advantage of the Black Ferns’ relative lack of discipline.

Neither Canada nor England are infallible despite the laundry-list of top teams they’ve beaten to get this far. Both sides are immensely driven and disciplined, with Canada in particular benefiting from immense speed and determination.

Experts suggest that Canada’s recent play is similar to that of France – for example, by keeping the ball moving. Given that England have fallen prey to France’s immaculate style of rugby before, it’s clear that the Red Roses won’t be looking at a straight whitewash. That is, of course, unless they strategise carefully before Saturday.

However, let’s remember the key statistics one more time. England’s rugby women have won their last 32 consecutive games. That’s an impressive accolade that, for all Canada are passionate about winning the cup, England will not be willing to give up so easily.

All of these factors are, at least, pointing towards what’s likely to be one of the most entertaining Women’s Rugby World Cup finals of all time.

Our expert predictions

Fans on either side of the Atlantic have shown that they are absolutely passionate about how these final moments will unfold, and regardless of who wins on the day, history will be made.

Tonybet’s experts say that England are still a safe bet going into the final. However, the safety of this bet isn’t ironclad – Canada have enough strength, speed and power behind them (as well as an incredible giant-killing spirit) to pull off the mother of all upsets.
