Liverpool take on Lille in round seven of the Champions League as they look to extend their impressive 100% record. Having collected 18 points from their opening six matches, as well as beating Brentford in the last minute in the Premier League at the weekend, Arne Slot’s team will be keen to keep their momentum going.

In front of a sell-out crowd at Anfield, Liverpool are heavy favourites to make it seven wins in a row, and although Lille have struggled for consistency in this competition and domestically, they have plenty of players that can cause the hosts plenty of issues.

Round seven conjuring some superb matches

The new-format Champions League group phase is starting to take shape after six rounds and although our focus is on Liverpool vs Lille, there are plenty of other games to keep an eye on this week.

Aston Villa travel to Monaco as they continue to eye up a top eight finish, while struggling Manchester City need a positive result against PSG on the road after their dismal start to the campaign in what looks to be the best tie of the round.

Arsenal face a routine task against Dinamo Zagreb, while Celtic will be hoping to continue their fine form at home against struggling Young Boys.

Barcelona traveled to Benfica having failed to beat Getafe at the weekend, which looks to be a fixture that might just have an upset with the Portuguese club flying domestically.

Liverpool – Top of the Premier League and Top of The Champions League table

Liverpool fans would have been concerned about what their immediate future looked like when Jurgen Klopp announced he would be leaving the club, but Arne Slot has come in and continued his fine work.

In fact, one could argue Slot’s arrival may have been perfectly timed – and perhaps Liverpool wouldn’t be where they are without him – but that’s one to debate another time.

Having lost just once at home in 2024 for both Feyenoord and Liverpool, the Dutchman has turned Liverpool into a winning machine, who sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League after 21 matches.

Having drawn 1-1 with high-flying Nottingham Forest midweek, Liverpool returned to winning ways thanks to a late brace from Darwin Nunez against Brentford. Slot has created a strong resilience and mentality within his squad, who don’t give up easily, and it explains why they are not only top of the Premier League, but also the Champions League.

In the latter, Liverpool beat Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Bologna in front of their own supporters, as well as AC Milan at the San Siro. It’s been very impressive to be winning so often across both competitions, and fans will be hoping at least another double will be added to their growing trophy cabinet come May.

Lille are no slouches this year either

Next to try and topple Liverpool are French outfit Lille. Currently sitting in 8th place in the Champions League, Lille have picked up 13 points from six matches – the same as Arsenal, Aston Villa and Inter Milan, to name a few, all tied on the same tally.

Domestically, Lille are currently in 3rd, and head into this midweek fixture having beaten 5th placed Nice 2-1 at home on Friday evening. Liverpool are heavy favourites, but they will have to earn their win against one of the better teams in the competition so far.

One of the main reasons for their success is down to the Canadian forward Jonathan David. The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, scoring 11 in 18 and six in 10 respectively. The dangerous forward was the match winner when Lille beat Real Madrid in front of their own fans, as well as scoring a brace when they beat Atletico Madrid on the road.

In behind him, tucked on the left wing is 21-year-old Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, who arrived at the club from Copenhagen back in 2023. The attacking midfielder has scored in his last two matches against Marseille and Nice, and Liverpool will need Trent Alexander Arnold at his best if he is to keep the Icelandic winger quiet.

One player Liverpool fans will know well is former Everton midfielder Andre Gomes. The defensive midfielder has been Lille’s preferred man in the middle of the park this campaign, and no doubt the Portuguese will be informing his squad what to expect at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

All of these players are led by Bruno Génésio, formerly of Lyon, Beijing Guoan and Rennes before joining Lille last year. The 58-year-old Frenchman has won 50% of his matches so far at his new club, and impressed many during his stint at Rennes – which is why Lille were keen to bring him in.

Can he be the first manager to beat Liverpool in 2025 at Anfield?

So, will Liverpool dominate the match?

Liverpool is currently priced at 1.33 to win the match. They are strong favourites and it would take a brave person to back them against them in their current form. No doubt they won’t be able to maintain their 100% record in the Champions League over the course of the season, but it would be a surprise to see them give it up in round seven – despite Lille beating several big teams already.

Lille also don’t have a good record against English clubs in the Champions League. In fact, they have won just one of their last ten and have lost seven others. However, their head coach won’t be worried about that as his team are currently on a 21-match unbeaten run dating back to September 2024.

With Lille’s incredible record on the line heading into this key fixture, Liverpool fans know they might have to be patient if they are to break down their French opponents. That’s because Liverpool have only been leading at half-time in four of their last 12 matches, and against a compact side, that unwanted record could be extended.

Still, Liverpool haven’t lost at home since 14th September when Nottingham Forest beat them 1-0. They have since gone 13 games unbeaten at home, winning 11 of those and drawing the other two.

The hosts will have Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister back after serving his Champions League suspension, and with three of his last four goals for the club having been home match openers, he could be the alternative goalscoring betting angle away from the usual headline acts.

The main one is of course, Mo Salah, having scored 18 goals in 21 Premier League matches, but the Egyptian has some work to do if he is to win the golden boot in the Champions League, with just two to his name from his first six games. His Colombian attacker, Luis Diaz, has three and could be the other main threat as he’s likely to lead the line despite Darwin Nunez’s late brace against Brentford.

Arne Slot has no injury concerns or suspensions to worry about heading into this tie, and he’ll know he requires the best starting XI if they are to be the team to finally break Lille’s unbeaten record.

However, the bookmakers clearly believe that Liverpool can get the better of their French opponents and make it seven wins on the bounce in the Champions League. Whatever you believe, or want to bet, you should check out Tonybet’s website for all the latest markets ahead of Liverpool vs Lille.
